Decisive Wargame Design (DWD) publishes historical miniature wargaming rules sold through Wargame Vault.
DWD games are designed by Chris Leach and developed by the White Rock Gamers and other individuals and groups in Canada, the US, and Europe. The games emphasize the historical military systems and doctrines as they were used in battle. Whether these were culturally shaped or developed by professional military institutions, these systems and doctrines shaped the experience of soldiers and so too that of the players. The tension between what a player wants to do and what his army system permits is a key aspect of all DWD systems while presenting a fun and challenging game.
Chris Leach has had the good fortune of being a professor emeritus of European military and cultural history at the University of the Fraser Valley, British Columbia, while also being passionate about wargaming and game design. He has worked with Arty Conliffe for over 30 years on Arty’s games like Armati, Shako, and Crossfire. This friendship has shaped much of his design philosophy while he keeps abreast of current trends and preferences in the hobby.
